Do you ever let an embossing folder do most of the work on a handmade card?

That was very much the idea behind this card. I wanted the background to provide plenty of interest, so I paired the Simply Leaves Bundle with the Textured Tree Ring 3D Embossing Folder and kept the rest of the design quite simple.

The combination of Secret Sea, Early Espresso and Pecan Pie gives the card a lovely earthy colour palette, while the Basic White around the stamped leaves helps them stand out against the darker embossed background.

Creating the Textured Background

I started with a Secret Sea card base.

Next, I cut a layer of Early Espresso cardstock and embossed it using the Textured Tree Ring 3D Embossing Folder. I really like how much detail this adds without needing any extra stamping or embellishment on the background.

Once embossed, I adhered the Early Espresso layer to the card base.

Using the Simply Leaves Bundle

For the focal images, I used the Simply Leaves Bundle. It includes the Simply Leaves Stamp Set and the coordinating Simple Leaf Punch, so the stamped leaves are very easy to cut out.

I stamped one of the leaf images in Early Espresso ink onto Basic White cardstock and stamped the second leaf in Pecan Pie ink.

I then used the Simple Leaf Punch to punch out both stamped images and set them aside while I worked on the sentiment.

Adding the Sentiment

On another piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped the sentiment, “I’m grateful for your kindness”, using Secret Sea ink.

I trimmed the cardstock quite closely around the sentiment so it wouldn't cover too much of the embossed background.

I adhered the sentiment to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals, then added both punched leaves with Dimensionals as well. Raising those elements gives the card a little extra depth while still allowing the Textured Tree Ring background to be a big part of the finished design.

A Simple Card with Plenty of Texture

This is one of those designs where you don't need lots of different elements to create interest. The embossing folder provides the detailed background, while the Simply Leaves Bundle makes it easy to add a couple of clean, stamped focal images.

I also like having a card with a kindness sentiment ready to go. A handmade card can be such a thoughtful way to let someone know their kindness has been noticed and appreciated.
