Sometimes it’s nice to sit down with a few supplies and simply see where the creativity takes you. That was very much the idea behind these four simple Summer Happiness card ideas.

I wanted to create cards that felt fun and colourful, but were still approachable. You don’t always need lots of different products or complicated techniques to make an interesting card, and these projects are a lovely example of that.

One of my favourite things to play with was the washi tape. There are different ways you can use it, which gave me plenty of possibilities for creating four cards without making them all look the same.

Start Simply and Build From There

For the first card, I loved the idea of letting the washi tape do much of the work. Adding it directly to the cardstock creates colour and pattern very quickly, so you already have a great starting point before adding your other elements.

This is particularly handy when you want to make something without spending ages deciding what should go where. Start with the feature you love, then add just enough around it to finish the design.

Turn the Washi Tape Into Embellishments

Another fun way to use the washi is to adhere it to Basic White cardstock and then cut out the individual images with the coordinating dies.

I really enjoyed this because suddenly you have a collection of colourful little pieces ready to use. There are cameras, flowers, pineapples and other fun images that you can arrange and layer until you find a combination you like.

You can cut several at once and keep the extras for another project too. It’s a simple way to get more from the supplies you already have sitting on your craft table.

Four Cards, Four Different Ideas

What I especially like about these projects is that they show how differently you can approach the same collection of products.

You can keep a card very clean and simple, make the washi the main feature, create individual die-cut embellishments or add a little more layering and detail. There isn’t one “right” way to use everything.

That’s part of the fun of card making. You can take an idea you see here, change the colours, move the elements around or simplify it even further to suit the supplies you have.
