Moonlit Flora Series Part 2: Easy Layered Card Layouts

Welcome to Part 2 of my three-part Moonlit Flora series!

In Part 1, I shared two simple cards that let the beautiful Designer Series Paper take centre stage. This time, we're building on those ideas by adding a few extra layers to create more depth and visual interest, while still keeping the layouts easy to recreate.

If you've ever wanted your cards to look a little more detailed without making them more complicated, these two designs are a great place to start.

Building on a Simple Layout

One of my favourite ways to add interest to a card is with layering. It doesn't require any extra stamping techniques or fancy folds, but it instantly gives the design more dimension.

Both of these cards use the same basic layout. By changing the cardstock colours and Designer Series Paper, each card has its own personality while still following exactly the same design.

The Mossy Card

For this card, I started with a Mossy Meadow card base before adding a layer of Basic White cardstock. I then added a piece of Moonlit Flora Designer Series Paper, leaving a very narrow border around the edge to frame the design.

Next came a layer of Golden Glow cardstock, followed by another piece of Designer Series Paper. The contrast between the cardstock and patterned paper creates a lovely focal point without overwhelming the design.

I finished the card by stamping the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black, cutting it out with a coordinating die, and adding a few Dew Drops embellishments from the Moonlit Flora Suite Collection.

Inside the card, I carried the design through with a strip of Designer Series Paper across the top and a Basic White panel underneath for writing.

The Golden Glow Card

For the second card, I simply reversed the colour combination.

I started with a Golden Glow card base, added a layer of Basic White, then a piece of Moonlit Flora Designer Series Paper with a narrow border around the edge.

This time, I layered Mossy Meadow cardstock behind another piece of Designer Series Paper to create the focal panel. After stamping and die-cutting the sentiment, I cut the sentiment apart and positioned it along the left-hand side of the patterned paper for a slightly different look.

A few Dew Drops embellishments completed the front, while the inside mirrors the first card with Designer Series Paper across the top and a Basic White writing panel below.

Small Changes, Big Difference

These cards are a great example of how just a few extra layers can completely change the feel of a design. The layout is still simple enough to recreate, but the additional cardstock frames the Designer Series Paper beautifully and draws your eye to the focal point.
